Welcome to VirtueMart – Point of Sale

This is a new initiative for developing a Point of Sale (POS or EPOS) system for VirtueMart (VM). We have been asked too many times by clients for a Joomla ecommerce solution that integrates with their physical shop. So we have decided to build one!

The most requested feature is stock synchronisation, to prevent the same items being sold in store and online at the same time. There are many ways to go about this which we are investigating.

There are obviously many other possible features, which we are researching for prioritisation like:

  • Synchronising products
  • Generating barcodes
  • Managing customers
  • Synchronising prices
  • Generating reports
  • Managing inventory
  • Synchronising orders
  • Generating receipts
  • Managing promotions

There are two approaches we are considering:

  • 1. Create a Point of Sale interface designed to be used in store that runs from the VirtueMart database
  • 2. Create a series of plugins that synchronise certain data between VirtueMart and existing POS systems
